IMI Delhi holds 26th Annual Convocation

Delhi : International Management Institute (IMI) Delhi held its Twenty Sixth Annual Convocation at the Institute's Campus on Saturday. While speaking at the occasion Dr. Rakesh Mohan, Former Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India said, "There is an air of hope that pervades almost all part of the country today. New opportunities are being generated, I am sure that you will open yourselves to new possibilities of experimentation and creativity" .

The Convocation was declared open by Mr D H Pai Panandikar, Member IMI Board of Governors.

In all 265 students were conferred with Post Graduate Diplomas in Business Management (PGDBM). The students were from IMI's 26th Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (58 students), 22nd Three year Part Time Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) (33 students), 16th Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGDM), the two year full time programme, ( 117 Students ) and 4th Post Graduate Diploma in Management -Human Resource (57 students).

"Given the pace of change in the world, the acquisition of new learning and new experiences will continue to be a lifelong effort. You will change professions; you will acquire new skills; you will acquire new interests, as you go on in life. So don't leave your books behindand acquire a kindle so that you can keep reading and learning," further added Dr. Mohan

Welcoming the guests and congratulating the graduating students, Prof P. K. Bhaumik, Director IMI Delhi said: "We cannot stand isolated from global recession. Companies were affected and in turn placement were also affected last year . This year the performance of the Institute has showed recovery in the second half of the year. Also we have taken a decision to revamp some of the courses for all programmes in the light of the lessons learned from the crisis. It is our challenge now to maintain quality of delivery and then ensuring output".

Prof Bhaumik while paying homage to the IMI's former Director, Dr. C. S. Venkata Ratnam who passed away recently said, "IMI has suffered an irreparable loss and we will miss his guidance for a very long time. May his soul rest in peace."

All students graduating from the Institute's Two year Post Graduate Program (PGP) have been placed with an average salary package of Rs 7 lac in PGDM. The PGDMHR has already placed 85% of the students. The highest package offered to the outgoing batch is of Rs 13 lacs.

Major recruitments this year happened in the banking & financial, IT, ITES, Telecom, Automobile, energy KPO's sector amongst others.

Some of the prominent recruiters included companies like ADM Agro, ICICI, IDBI, HDFC, RPG, YES Bank, Infosys, Citibank, Citi Corp, IMFR, Maruti Suzuki, QAI Global Services Ltd, MTR, CPI India among others. Job which have been offered to outgoing students range from Sales & Distribution, Marketing, Market Research, Project Management, Consulting, Operations, Material Management, HR, IR, Finance, Project Appraisal, Team Lead, to name few.

Prof Bhaumik during his address further added: "We have taken several initiatives this year, helping to ensure that research and teaching at IMI remains alive to the issues of the day and the needs of tomorrow. We have introduced PhD programme in collaboration with the I. P. University with six PhD research scholars. Our journal, Global Business Review is going to be tri-annual from this year. The Institute's recent decision to introduce incentives for high quality research is expected to go a long way in increasing the research output of the faculty". He further said that IMI's Centre for Management of Innovation and Technology "is in talks with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India for a larger project involving research, training and conferences, in collaboration with IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Madras and IMI".

During the year, the institute has offered about 51 management development programmes training over 1189 participants from a diverse set of organizations.
