Chennai : Villgro has instituted the Villgro Awards to celebrate and recognize the spirit of innovation in the social or rural sector. This year's award event will be held at their annual function called the UN Convention on 11th December, 2009. Entries are open to all individual and organisations to upload their nominations on or before 3rd December 2009.

UN Convention by Villgro is supported by The Lemelson Foundation, an organization which celebrates and supports inventors and entrepreneurs in order to strengthen social and economic life, Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, a global association of the world's leading social entrepreneurs, IIT Madras and NSTEDB.
Established in the year 2000, Villgro is a not for profit section-25 company to empower rural development by actively identifying and incubating innovations. Villgro is actively supported by patrons that include The Le'melson Foundation (USA), Dorabji Tata trust, IIT Madras and HIVOS. To date Villgro has impacted over 350,000 rural users with technology & solutions reaching the grassroots thereby creating social returns worth over 5 million USD.
