Pune : Scotch aficionados from 9 cities across India indulged in a unique affair to remember - a soiree with Richard Paterson, the celebrated master blender for Whyte & Mackay, Scotland's favorite Scotch. They were treated to a rare and enthralling experience of witnessing, Richard Paterson doing what he knows best -"nosing". The Scotch Affair was indeed a one of its kind opportunity for the people of Pune, Indore, Lucknow, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore to imbibe skills and knowledge to become scotch connoisseurs.

Richard is the creator of The Dalmore Oculus Single Malt, which sold at Bonham's London last week for Rs. 25 lacs (GBP 31000) & The Dalmore 62 year old, the most expensive whisky ever sold at Rs. 35 lacs, mind you, both these prices are for but a single botele of 700 ML of finest Scotch Single Malt. Another feather in his much adorned cap is his signature blend of the

Whyte & Mackay 30 YO recently being awarded the "World's Best Blended Whisky" by International Wine & Spirits consortium (the global authority on Luxury Alcohol). The world renowned International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) has voted Whyte & Mackay Global Distiller of the Year 2009.The Glasgow-based spirits company won the prestigious accolade because of the record breaking year enjoyed by it , winning more international product awards than ever before.

"Whisky is a complex spirit, requiring the drinker to open up his senses completely, over a period of time. At Whyte & Mackay; we believe that a little more time works wonders. Drinking fine scotch is like having a conversation with a personality, appreciating its character while enjoying its rich full bodied taste, "said Richard Paterson, master blender, Whyte & Mackay. "The first step towards a lifelong affair with fine scotch lies in discovering the secret of tasting it or nosing it, "he added

While most distillers settle for only one maturation, Whyte & Mackay works on the unique philosophy of 'all good things come to those who wait' and uses the age-old double marriage process in the blending of their whisky which ensures a beautifully balanced blend. This unique process not only guarantees a smooth, mellow and distinctive character but more importantly guarantees consistency, accounting for every drop of Whyte & Mackay tasting as good as the first.

Paterson, popularly called the "The Nose", showcased the finer nuances of the fine art of blending which leads to the distinct taste of Whyte & Mackay, the Isle of Jura and Dalmore single malts. He opened up a whole new world of fine blends, sharing the secret to savouring the perfect 12 or a 16 year mature whisky.

The session revolved around discovering what your nose can do while you learn to enjoy a 12 or a 16 year old fine blend of whisky. Richard, while demonstrating the power of his nosing, encouraged the audience to open up their senses as well and delve into the heart of a blend like never before. The blends which were up for tasting included the W &M special variant, the 13, 19 and 22 year old ones.

The Whyte & Mackay portfolio is available in India with the Whyte Mackay 40 year Old, 22 Year Old, 19 Year old, 13 Year Old & the Special. Jura with Jura 16 Year Old, Superstition & The Jura 10 Year Old.
